WWE Superstars Results- John Morrison, Great Khali & Matt Hardy def Drew McIntyre & The Hart Dynasty
Alicia Fox & Katie Lea def Kelly Kelly & Eve
Divas once again start the show on Superstars but for the first time in 4 weeks, Jillian Hall is not involved. Eve and Alicia start the begin the match and Miss Fox does not fare very well with Chris Master’s girlfriend and Katie Lea is quickly tagged in. But Katie doesn’t have any better results and Kelly is tagged in so the good girls can drop a double elbow. Double K keeps the advantage before Eve returns and hits a handspring splash but is unable to secure a proper pin attempt. Eve goes up top but Alicia shakes the ropes to cause her to fall. Fox further distracts Eve and this allows Katie to attack from behind and dump her over the top rope. Eve seems to have landed awkwardly so the bad girls start to work on her now injured leg. Alicia tags back into the match but can’t hold the advantage long and Eve is able to make the tag to Kelly who hits her around the world head scissors then a handspring splash from across the ring to take control. She follows with a hurricanrana for a two count that Katie Lea has to halt. Eve briefly comes in to dispatch Paul’s sister and they are quickly out of the way as Double K climbs the top rope. Kelly connects with a flying crossbody but Alicia rolls thru the move and holds her down to “steal” the pinfall victory.
Evan Bourne def Carlito
Carlito throws hands at the start but it does not delay Evan for long as he picks up the pace with a series of low kicks and two quick covers. Carlito recovers and hits a nice dropkick while still selling the effects of the low kicks by Bourne. Both men trade attacks before Bourne hits another dropkick off the ropes and it sends Carlito outside of the ring. Evan waits for him to get to his feet and goes for a slingshot press but Carlito dodges it. However Evan lands on his feet and hits a running knee that appears to KO Carlito. Bourne drags him back into the ring and climbs the turnbuckle but Carlito gets up before he can launch an attack. Sideshow Bob then leaves the ring for a breather and the show also takes a break.
As we return, Bourne is still on the attack until Carlito nails him with a sudden boot to the face for a nearfall. Carlito gets a stun gun like maneuver for another nearfall and a spinning neckbreaker for another long two count. Evan returns to the low kicks to stop the assault but Carlito is quickly back in control with a rebound elbow off the ropes for another two count. Bourne reverses two attacks by Carlito into two straight pinning attempts but can’t hold him down for three either time. Both men trade another series of reversals into nearfalls before Carlito picks up Bourne near the ropes and attempts to suplex him back into the ring. Evan fights out of it hitting him with a knee and a kick to set him up for Air Bourne but Carlito gets to his feet before Evan can make the climb and tries to set him up for the super-plex. But Evan is able to fight Carlito off and send him crashing down to the mat before following with the shooting star press for the win.
The Superstars video package of the week features the return of the Rated R Superstar Edge and his win at the Royal Rumble. And then of course we also get a recap of Vince and Bret having a chat on Raw. Speaking of that confrontation, tomorrow on Smackdown there will be further footage of Batista’s involvement which also seemed to include John Cena. Also, according to a commercial during the show, ECW is being replaced by WWE NXT in 3 weeks on SyFy.
John Morrison, Great Khali & Matt Hardy def Drew McIntyre & The Hart Dynasty
Of note before the match, Kidd and Smith almost drop Natalya as they lift her to the ring apron during their entrance. Tyson and Matt being the match and battle with dueling waist and wrist locks before Hardy hits a clothesline. Matt tag in Morrison and they combine for some Hardy style offense. Kidd is able to turn the tide on John and Drew is tagged in to further the attack. John fires back against his nemesis and tags Khali in and he makes quick work of both and Drew McIntyre and Tyson Kidd. Khali lifts McIntyre, then tags Hardy and they combine for a variation of Demolition Decapitation for a nearfall. The ref gets distracted by Smith and Kidd and Drew hit kicks to slow Matt’s roll. Smith then tags into the match and pounds away on Hardy before the show takes an abrupt commercial break.
As we return to action, Matt is still being controlled by Smith until he is able to hit a side Russian leg sweep and Morrison and Kidd are both tagged into the match. John gets distracted by McIntyre and Kidd attacks but is caught with a powerbomb. Morrison goes for a rebound attack in the corner but Kidd is ready for it dumps him over the top rope. While Morrison is down and the ref is distracted, Natalya kicks him into the ribs before McIntyre assists him in returning to the ring. Smith re-enters the match and tosses John around with a series of suplexes but can’t control him and he escapes to tag Hardy back in. Matt hits the Side Effect on Smith but the pin attempt is broken up by both Drew and Tyson. All three heels look to combine for a variation of the Hart Attack but Khali pulls McIntyre and Kidd out of the ring. Morrison then hits both men with a clothesline off the ring side barricade as Hardy hits Smith with the Twist of Fate back in the ring. Khali then tags in and gives Smith the Punjabi Plunge to give his team the pinfall victory.
Inside Pulse: WWE Superstars Report 01/21/10
Kelly Kelly def. Jillian Hall: This is Jillian’s third straight week opening Superstars. Hall tries to work the arm to start but allows Kelly to work her way to the corner and Double K uses the ropes to flip out of the hold. Kelly then follows with a hurricanrana for a quick two count. Jillian wins the next exchange and covers for two, then attacks the hair to maintain her advantage. She uses a surfboard in two sequences before Kelly finally fights out of it. Kelly hits her around the world head scissors and after an exchange in the corner tries a rollup that Jillian reverses for a pin attempt of her own. Jillian tosses her into the opposite corner and tries a handspring elbow from across the ring but Kelly kicks her in the back to halt the move. Kelly then hits her Kelly Kick according to Michael Cole (which is kind of a step-up Fame-Asser) for the victory.
Vance Archer def Shelton Benjamin: Nice tramp stamp on Archer who starts by backing Shelton into a corner to talk some trash. Benjamin doesn’t want to hear it and goes on the attack following a back elbow. Archer retreats to a corner and is able to drop Benjamin into the turnbuckle when he chases him to attack. He then goes for his finisher but Shelton reverses it into a small package for a quick two count. Vance tries to toss Benjamin over the top rope but he skins the cat and head scissors Archer out of the ring and we take a commercial break.
As we return from the break, Archer is in control but Shelton leaps over him on a toss and subsequent charge into the corner but eats a big boot on his own follow up. Vance works a chinlock before breaking it from some strikes as he continues to work over the neck of Benjamin. Eventually Shelton fights back and hits his double ax handle off a corner reversal. A spin kick and a German suplex with a bridge both get a nearfalls for Benjamin. Archer retakes the advantage and ties Shelton up in the corner in the “tree of woe” position just like their match on Superstars a few weeks ago. However this time Benjamin is ready for it and kicks Vance as he charges in after a ref break. Shelton then uses an Oklahoma roll to pin Archer for the win.
Kane def Chris Jericho: Interesting Royal Rumble trivia from the announce team, Kane and Shawn Michaels have the most appearance in the Rumble match with 11 apiece. Jericho stalls to start and exits the ring a couple of times in an attempt to avoid Kane’s grasp. Chris pimp slap’s Kane but pays for it as the Big Red Machine pounds on him to take control of the match. After hitting his low dropkick off the ropes, Kane starts trying to work on the arm. Jericho makes his way to the ropes and begins an attack of his own after the ref forces a break. Jericho ducks a charge and pulls the top rope down with him and Kane tumbles outside of the ring. Vintage Jericho follows with a rebound dropkick from the corner as Kane tries to climb back in and we go to a commercial break.
When we return, Jericho is in control and matt Striker lets us know that has been the story during the break as well. Chris tries a double ax off the second rope, but Kane catches him and tosses him back into the corner. But he charges and misses, sending himself into the ringpost to give the advantage back to Jericho. An enziguri gets a long two count for Jericho who starts to taunt the crowd before locking in a sleeper hold, which if you watch Smackdown you know is Kane’s greatest weakness. A bulldog attempt by Jericho is somewhat reversed by Kane and after both struggle to their feet Kane takes the advantage. Side walk slam gets a long two count for Kane but when he tries for his flying clothesline Jericho dropkicks him in the gut for a nearfall of his own. Jericho hits the bulldog properly but misses on the Lionsault and eats a big boot. Chris slides out of a slam attempt and chopblocks Kane before trying and failing to lock on the Walls of Jericho. He then tries for the Codebreaker but isn’t able to connect as Kane sidesteps him. Kane goes for the chokeslam, but Jericho bails outside of the ring and runs up the ramp and decides to tack the loss via count out. Extremely lame ending to a match seemed to have been building towards a much better finish.

John Morrison vs. Tyson Kidd
notes: WWE Superstars airs Thursdays at 7pm ct on WGN
Morrison by pin in 12 minutes in an excellent tv match. This should have been on the ppv last night. Kidd continues to improve and plays solid heel. Undoubtedly a star in the making if the powers that be don’t hold him down. 3 1/2 stars and making an educated guess that this will be the match of the night.

United States Champion Kofi Kingston attacked The World’s Largest Athlete
Having told Seth Green to watch how smaller competitors fare in the WWE ring, Big Show took to the ring ready to deal out some serious damage to Evan Bourne. The World’s Largest Athlete proceeded to ground “Air” Bourne with his Colossal Clutch, refusing to release the high-flyer even after the bell was rung. Rushing to Bourne’s aide, United States Champion Kofi Kingston, who had been seated at the commentary table, executed a well-placed kick to the back of Big Show’s head. The Jamaican Superstar followed up with a dropkick that sent The World’s Largest Athlete stumbling out of the ring.
